Meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by President Dudley Owens.
Treasurers Report-Marty Guzman reported the starting balance was $13813.93. There were $142.98 in sales. The final balance as of 4-16-13 is $11707.56.
A discussion took place about replacing Randy Tribo on the bank's signers list. Nothing decided.
A discussion took place about filling the vacant Vice President seat. Phil Venable made a motion to leave the seat unfilled until the June election. Second by Richard Gideon. Motion passed unanimously.
Discussion regarding a retrospective show featuring Randy Tribo's work. It was decided to incorporate it into the Cultural Arts Show.
Discussion regarding potential jurors for the Juried Art Show. Maricel was unsure about qualifiers for judging. Only requirement was they should be known artists. Judges will be paid and given a lunch. Marty Guzman made a motion to pay judges $150. Christy Dougherty 2nd motion. Vote 8-1 in favor.
Maricel Townsell is sponsoring guest jewelry artists during the Member's Open Show. No objection by the Board. Maricel will coordinate with Susan White.
Dudley Owens said the Student Art Show will continue, with a show to be scheduled for 2014.
April Zachary volunteered to be on the hanging committee for future shows.
The fee for the Juried Art Show will be $10 for VAL members, and $12 for non-members. A $5 service fee will be charged to any work that needs to conform to the hanging requirements.
Christy Dougherty- Reported the Gala went well. Susan White was honored at the event.
Roberto Valdez-State Fair Art Show rules have been posted on the their webpage.
Rush Ranch has an art show on April 27. Work must be submitted on April 26 and taken home at the end of the day on April 27. The theme is Nature. HYPERLINK "http://Www.rushranch.net/"Www.rushranch.net for more information.
Yolo County Fair will be in early Aug.

Meeting was called to order at 6:34 pm by President Dudley Owens. Dudley announced the passing of Vice President Randy Tribo.
Randy's sons, Elan and Mingan, asked for a public reception to be held at the gallery, to remember the life of Randy Tribo, on April 6, 2013, at 6:00 pm. The reception would be a potluck. The Board approved the reception.
Treasurer's Report: Marty Guzman reported on Feb 28, 2013, the balance was $12,837.27. Sales were $361.56. The ending balance was $12,923.27
New member Dan Schallock was nominated to sit on the Board by Richard Gideon. Board approved by unanimous vote.
The Juried Art Show was discussed and the following Chair positions were filled to accomplish needs for the Show.

Fairfield Daily Republic newspaper printed an article of Curt Tyner, Guest Artist at the current show. Jurors are needed for Juried Art Show.
- Discussion on reviving Art in the Park. Tabled for another meeting.
- Lenore Hubal-Mary Reisch had a Plein Aire workshop attended by 11 people. Another planned for March 9.
- A VAL member had a piece damaged at the Community Center. She took all her work down and nothing is currently hanging at the Community Center.

The June show by Imagine Arts has been cancelled so the Watercolor show will be extended to cover the time period.
- Roberto Valdez-San Francisco Flyway show has been extended two more weeks.

Solano Land Trust is putting on an Art Show in April at Rush Ranch.
Dudley Owens-Art, Wine, and Brew Fest will be 8-30 to 9-1, 2013, in Down town Vacaville.
Richard Godeon - Susan White is this year's nominee for the Vaca Arts Gala March 30, 2013. Nomination paperwork still needs to be submitted.

- Susan White reported Joan McClain is resigning from the Board due to a family health issue. Mailings went out for the Student Art Show.
Richard Gideon thanked the Board for his Dec 8 reception. He said he will donate the Mickey Mouse sculpture he received back to the gallery upon his passing.
Roberto Valdez-Norman Rockwell exhibit at the Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, runs until Feb 3. San Francisco Flyway Festival and Art Show runs Feb 8-10, at Mare Island, Bldg 825.

Meeting called to order at 6:39 pm by President Dudley Owens. President Owens determined there was not a quorum and therefore no action items could be voted on.
Treasurers Report: Treasurer Marty Guzman reported income from July 17 through September 18, 2012, was $4292.52, with expenses at $3128.56, for a net income of $1163.96. As of August 31, 2012, VAL had a bank balance of $13,563.47.
Items for discussion: Per Susan White, who was on vacation, Christy Dougherty relayed the following information to the membership:
Philip Venable discussed bringing the Lightwriters Photography Club's annual photo contest to the Gallery, with the First, Second, and Third Place winners, plus Best of Show, being hung for show. The tentative date will be April 20, 2013. Details to follow.
It was noted VAL participation at the Solano County Fair's various art contests is minimal and we should be encouraging participation in local county fair exhibits. Most fairs offer cash prizes for First, Second, and Third place showings.
Janet Manolo said she no longer could maintain the VAL website due to her other endeavors. Beatrice Lackey volunteered to take over the website maintenance.

MINUTES JULY 17, 2012

MEETING called to order by President Dudley Owens at 1840 hrs.
MINUTES Approved as posted on the website.
BUSINESS President Dudley Owens broke down the numbers from the Juried Art Show. The show brought in $3600. Expenses were $1470 netting VAL $2130. The Silent Auction brought in $930. A total of 3 art pieces sold at the show. Of the total number of entrieds in the show, 178 were submitted by members, 57 by non-members. VAL gained 3 new members, giving VAL 120 paid members.
Phil Glashoff gave the VAL a check for $1200 as a donation for the use of volunteers during his June show. He thanked the VAL for their support for his last show and all previous shows VAL has provided volunteers for. Phil said 2700 guests attended hos June show. His next show will be Oct 13 and 14, 2012. Country Joe McDonald is a possible entertainer on Oct 13, and Purple Haze, a Jimi Hendrix cover band, will entertain on Oct 14. Phil will again select 2 to 3 artists from the VAL to sell at his Oct show. 5 Suisun Valley wineries will attend, with their representatives, to serve wines from their respective wineries, as a way to help local wineries expand their audience.
Jim Ball, of the Center for Imaginitive Reuse, discussed collecting recycled items for use by K-12 teachers for their art classes. Jim discussed creating a memorial for the 59 Solano County servicemen who lost their lives in the Vietnam War, and creating a mobile art van to teach children about art.
Susan White said the public response to the Juried Art Show was positive.
Emma Green, President of Vaca Arts, was introduced by Christy Dougherty. Emma discussed ways to improve integration of the Performing Arts with the Visual and Fine Arts. Vaca Arts would like to share resources and partner with VAL on certain events to bring all the arts together. Emma suggested a joint mixer with the two organizations.
Christy Dougherty said author, and Vaca Arts member, Dana Oldknow is having a book signing on Oct 12 and suggested the book signing be at the Gallery. Approved by the Board. Christy is also involved in a logo contest for Vaca Arts. Art students at Vacaville and Will C Wood high schools are participating. The winner of the contest gets $200, along with the winning student’s school art department. Christy suggested VAL donate $200 for prize money. No vote was taken.
Janet Manalo thanked VAL for the Art Divas’ exhibit and reminded us of the reception, to be held at the Gallery on July 28. Desserts and wine will be provided.
Karen Hansen suggested having a potluck party with Vaca Arts at the Gallery during the Christmas season. Discussion followed with no definitive plans made.

Dudley Owens, Christy Dougherty and her husband Randy attended the Gala. Christy was honored by VAL. Everyone felt Gala was very successful. Dudley suggested next year VAL reserve their own table and encourage more attendance at this event.

After much discussion, $50 will be awarded to each 1st Place winner in all 8 categories, plus ribbons. No memberships awarded this year.

COMMENTS
Jim Ball reported that the recycle materials for the arts is now in Bowman's old store, its called Center for the Imaginative Arts. Susan reported that the Yellow Brick Road store is closing. Ron Gallus now has bumper stickers available from Susan. Mingan Tribo would like to use the Gallery for a film. Janet Manalo is requesting the Gallery for a Diva's Show after the Juried Art Show. Approved by the Board for the last Saturday in July and to run until August 26.

Meeting called to order 6:40. Janet Manalo volunteered to take Minutes.
Vacaville Fire Dept. on the scene to check out the A/C. A burned-out belt had caused a problem. The bldg was never in any danger. Meeting continued.
Treasurer’s report: Marty reported $5006.77 in the bank acct as of May 31, 2011. Recent Sales: $958.68. Commission/ percentage to VAG not reported.
Glashoff Event discussion: Phil called the Gallery on Saturday, June 4th. Due to rain, and predicted minimal turnout, he no longer needed the VAL member volunteers. VAG lost a ‘potential’ $2000 revenue source. Members juried in for his June show not necessarily invited for October show.
Susan White report: Fiesta Days org paid 3 months of rent. Suggestion to closed VAG on Friday July 1 and Saturday, July 2 due to holiday. Motion made by Karen, 2nd by Marty; all approved. Gallery will be closed July 1&2. JAS art will be available for pick-up July 5-8. Susan will send email to membership/participating artists notifying them of change. JAS: 2 pieces of artwork sold. JAS income about $2100; $52 from ‘wine donation’ during reception. Art supplies in Gallery have sold well.
Board Elections: Motion to postpone elections until July. Made by Dudley, 2nd by Randy. Susan will send email alerting membership to July meeting activity and need for attendance.

New member Lenore introduced; 1st time to a meeting. She is interested in promoting art in the school system.

GUESTS: Jim Ball updated his project on recycling. He is setting up a display at the Greenbeans Coffee House. One wall will be young artists and the other wall will be adult artists with art work priced below $200.00. Jim has talked to Laura Kuhn, Vacaville's City Manager, about setting up an Art Festival, similar to Laguana Beach's Saw Dust Festival.
Jim would like the the Art League work with him in developing a festival. Looking at Lagoon Valley specifically the old Nursery.

TREASURER: Marty Guzman reported in the Bank Dec. 31, $1,530.79. In the Bank as of Jan. 18, $1,839.86.
Richard Reported that Vaca Arts Council is sponsoring a benefit show at the Leisure Town Hall on March 6 for the Leisure Town Singers. He asked that the Gallery let him display 5 or 6 gallery owned paintings at the Show. Can't sell at the Town Hall but an informational tag telling who to contact if interested in purchasing a paint will be on each painting. Richard also reported on the request for names of Board Members who have missed three meetings in a row, unexcused. Only one member and she no longer wants to be on the Board of Directors.
VICE PRESIDENT Randy reported that the Student Art Show is coming up soon. The reception for Mayor Augustine was well done. Many City Hall people attended.
PRESIDENT Dudley reported that Brian Hamlin of the Reporter who is a great friend and supporter of the League and Gallery is in Vaca Vallery Hospital, condition is serious. If you know Brian or have worked with him, please send a card. Dudley thanked all the women who worked in the Gallery setting up the Gift Shop. Joy painted the kitchen.
Dudley also requested that members write letters to the editor of the Reporter telling how great the Gallery is and how very important it is to the Community.
BUSINESS: Spot Light Artist for the "Images Show" will be Roberto Valdez.
Joy is the Chair of the Gift Shop Committee and is looking for items such as jewelry, small sculptures, fabric prints, etc. Contact Joy if you have items that will sell.
Discussion was held on organizing trips to San Francisco DeYoung Museum and the Sacramento Crocker Museum. Don't really need a bus, a van or even car pools will work. Susan to send e mails to the members to see if anyone is interested in going on trips to San Francisco and Sacramento. Looking at February 20 to go to The Crocker Museum in Sacramento.
Board Members are to think about nominating a person to be honored by the League and Gallery at the Vaca Arts Salute to the Stars Gala on March 26 at the Opera House. Will be asked for their nominee next meeting.

Any subject that requires a change in Art League Policy and expenditure of funds other than the monthly bills are moved and voted on. Reception to be held on Dec 4 for Mayor Len Augustine. Randy to donate a paint to be presented to Mayor Augustine from the Art League and Gallery. Present City Council members and County Board of Supervisors to be invited. Contact will be made to Jim Craig who is a singer and guitarist to entertain at the reception.
GIFT SHOP COMMITTEE: Glass cases have been delivered. Gift Shop Committee has a plan and is in process.

GUESTS: Mrs. Libby from the Friends of Animals Organization asked for an Animal Exhibit as a fund raiser and proposed 1/3 to the Gallery and 1/3 to the Friends of Animals Organization. Randy reported that June has been set aside for the Animals Exhibit.
Jim Ball updated his project on Recycled Art. He doesn't have a site yet for collecting recyclables. Would like to have a recycling event during the month of the Annual Student Art Show Exhibit. Jim is willing to help with grant writing with the Gallery.
BUSINESS: Vice President Randy Tribo extended his THANKS to the Non Juried Art Show volunteers and to the Hanging Committee. Randy also reported that the Gallery needs to be repainted inside before the next Annual Juried Art Show in the Spring.
Kristi expressed the THANKS of the Board of Directors to Randy for all of the work he does for the Gallery. Barbara Musial will be in charge of publicity for the Gallery, she is currently the Newsletter Editor. Manager Susan White reported she will keep the Wednesday hours of noon to 7 pm and the new Friday hours noon to 7 pm will be coverd by a volunteer.
BOUTIQUE COMMITTEE: Will have a truck available to transport a donated glass case. Gift Shop membership is $30.00 Joy has donated a small glass case for the Boutique. THANKS

BUSINESS (Susan)1. A Candidate for the Vacaville City Council has requested to use the Gallery for a reception. Donation to the Gallery was encouraged. 2. Need art work for the Travis Air Force Ball at Travis AFB, members to be contacted. 3. 21 people are interested in a matting and framing workshop. 4. A member has suggested an "Animal Exhibit" as a fund raiser for the Gallery and an animal protection organization.
Marty moved and Kristi seconded that the line in the membership form concerning Tax Deduction be removed. Passed
PRESENTATION: Member D'Arcy presented plans for conducting a Watercolor Workshop to be held at the Gallery or Studio (to be co ordinated with the Fiesta Committee). It would be a 5 day workshop and cost $200 for Art League Member and $235 for a non member. The Art League and Gallery would receive part of the fee. Workshop would be from 9:30 am to 4 pm Monday thru Friday. Minimum of 5 students, maximum 20.
BOTIQUE COMMITTEE: Committee formed with Karen, Joy, Mai Ling, Kristi plus Susan and Estelle.
MEMBER REQUEST: Jerry Friese requested information on Spot Light Artist.

GUESTS: Jim Ball (former Community Services Director) presented his program for using recylable items for art projects. Would like to keep the League and Gallery in the loop for his future development. Vacaville would be the headquarters for a tri County area.
Mary Rieche, Mark Lillis and Carol Levin presented a request from The Leaven (a religious group) that the Art League and Gallery Membership has helped before, are asking for donations of art work for their fund raising event.
NEW BUSINESS: Randy presented his request that a Life Membership Category be established at $750.00 Discussed. Kristy moved Joy 2nd, Passed A request was also presented to establish a Group Membership Category with a limit of 10 exhibiting members, cost $90.00. Joy moved Mingan 2nd Passed. A Miniature Show to be considered for exhibit. Susan White Manager, reported that the broken window was repaired thanks to Lori Borchers brother.

BUSINESS: 1. Discussion on Hard Drive back up for Gallery data. Ron to investigate the method. 2. Window needs to be replaced. Will have to be done by hand since the casings are so old. 3. Joy Key recommends a power point presentation with an exhibit.
4. President Owens tabled the Board of Directors vote on mailing costs. Kristy volunteered to pay for 220 mailings. ($44.00) No action taken.
OLD BUSINESS: JURIED ART SHOW:. Randy THANKS all who worked on the show.
Janet commented that there were duplicate entries in the Juried Art Show. Art work given awards in the past were re entered and won again. A sign will be posted for next years show that previoius winning art work is not acceptable. Discussion on Judges seeing all entries prior to judging. Several methods were suggested. JPG submissions discussed. Next years Juried Art Show should start now looking for Judges and setting up the criteria for the show. Will need a Chairperson.

Fund raising was discussed. An informational packet is to be assembled. Need a Chair Person for a committee to contact sponsors, businesses and/or corporations.
JURIED ART SHOW: Randy needs help at the Gallery for receiving art work, which will be Tues April 4 through Saturday April 8, 12 - 4 pm. Prizes were discussed and it was decided that a % of the fees will be used for prizes. Christy moved that each juror will give a special award (cash) all media and one Best Of Show. Joy seconded. Passed.
NEW BUSNESS; Ron Gallus volunteered to reformat the Newsletter. Plein Air painting was discussed. Christy moved that $30.00 be charged for an ad of 1/3 of a page in the Juried Art Show Program.

BUSINESS:
Dudley Thanked Susan, Gallery Manager, for the article in the Vacaville Magazine about the Gallery.
Karen Hansen will be the Honoree from the Art League and Gallery at the Salute to the Stars Gala. Dudley will present the award and will also introduce Susan as the Gallery Manager to the arts community.
Marty Guzman suggested net working with the Vacaville Museum and other venues around town. Joy Key suggested net working with surrounding communities. Could use Arts in the Park to do the net working.
Randy Tribo thanked the staff and jurors for the Student Art Show. Exhibit has had many visitors both adult and students.
JURIED ART SHOW: Randy reported tha the show still needs jurors. Several names were suggested. Ribbons for the Juried Art Show will be given in 8 catagories and will be First Place, Second Place and Third Place and one ribbon for City Purchase ($500.)
Randy needs people for Jury Day plus food on May 2. Art work will be handled carefully without gloves. Need items for the Silent Auction and Raffle. Membership to be contacted. Ron Gallus will do the Juried Art Show Program which includes list of entries, winners and the names of jurors.
NEW BUSINESS: Need to repaint the out side sign. It was suggested that the Gallery contact Lazard Hazard Waste Co. to see about getting the wine out of the cellar. It was reported that the lights in the Gallery have been on in the early morning. Need shows for September - October, also May - June, also July - August. Mingan Tribo is to make and post a sign by the desk with a listing of requirment for having art work ready for hanging.
If the Hanging Committee has to do it there will be a $5.00 fee for each piece of art.

GUEST: Cindy Farrell spoke to the Board about the need for artists to instruct students in the Vacaville Unified School Districts After School Program. Notice will be sent to membership asking for volunteers. Contact Susan if interested.
NEW BUSINESS: Mary Rieche requested the Art League and Gallery participate in the May Artisan Fair which is a fundraiser for a youth outreach program in San Francisco that is Church sponsored. It was decided that the membership will be contacted and those that wish to participate may do so. The League and Gallery as an organization will not.
Janet Manolo inquired about hanging a metal sculpture in the Gallery. Not an easy thing to do and dangerous, another method is being explored.
REPORTS: Treasurer Marty Guzman reported that as of the end of Jan. 2010 there was $702.36 in the Bank. Richard is to contact Amy McElwain the only two signators left on the CD and cash it since it had matured and there would no penalty for cashing it. The amount of the CD is$3,000.00.+ Kristi moved and Mingo 2nd to cash the CD. Passed
JURIED ART SHOW. Marty moved and Mingo 2nd to raise the entry fee to $15 for memers and $20 for non members.
Marianne moved and Kristi 2nd that the Jurors be paid $200. Passed

It was also suggested that the artist whose work is not ready, to be given instruction on how to do it.
STUDENT ART SHOW: Joy Key moved and Mingan Tribo seconded that Randy be authorized to purchase plainer ribbons and the Paul Gobal Medal. Will have the same categories.

A. The Annual Non-juried Art Show, November 20, 2009 to January 9, 2010. Receiving November 10-14. Reception November 21, 7-9 pm Fees to remain the same $6.00 for members and $8.00 for non members. Steve Duncan is the Chairperson of the show. Pick up after the show will be January 5-9, 2010.
B. Basement Clean out will be scheduled in the Spring of 2010.
C. Gallery will be CLOSED, December 25,26,27, and 28. Also December 31, January 1,2,3,4 will reopen on January 5, 2010.
D. Art work needs to be replaced in The Surgery Center, Ulatis Community Center, and at Vacaville Toyota. Randy is in charge.
E. Christy moved that the League purchase 2 transformers for the lighting in the Gallery. Joy seconded. Passed.
F. Randy announced that January and February 2010 will be a Members Open Show.

B. Vice President Randy Tribo reported that a Miniature Show could be planned. Kristy moved and Maricella seconded that such a show be planned. Passed. Receiving for the show will be September 22. Exhibit opens October 6. Reception October 10. Exhibit closes November 10. Requirement for entry any item under 8 inches.
C. "Relay for Life" artwork to be replaced at the Surgery Center.
D. Non Juried art show needs a chairperson. Receiving for the show will be November 10 - 14. Exhibit opens November 20 ends the first of January. Reception will be December 5.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
a. Three letters expressing interest in the Gallery Managers position.
b. Hiring Committee formed: Joy, Karen, Randy, Maricell, Richard and Kristy.
c. Inspections are to be made of the "dead" fire alarms and lights, report sent to the Vacaville Fire Department.
NEW BUSINESS: Soroptomist Club is sponsoring a visit by "La Vida Nueva" from Oregon. They are Zapotec Women bringing an exhibit of rug weaving. The Gallery will feature the exhibit on September 14, 2009. B. Membership dues were discussed and the Family Membership requirement in particular. Kristy moved and Joy seconded that a Family Membership be all inclusive for families regardless of age and/or address.
REPORTS:
Treasurer: In the Bank, $4,523.06 Sales will be reported at the next meeting for June and July.
COMMITTEES:
Fundraising. L Napier, not present
Community Services Commission: Richard reported that the Arts Advisory Committee is about to fold.
Maintenance: Steve Duncan, not present
Workshops. Mai Ling Albert, not present
Receptions: Karen thanked the members of her committee for doing an excellent job at the last reception.
Hanging: Rand and his committee are doing an excellent job.
Phone: Jim McMenamin had no report.
Membership: No Chair, no report
Guest Artist: Randy is still in process of obtaining an artist.
Art and Soul: Randy reported that he met with the City and they want to repeat the event next year.
Non Juried Art Show: No Chair , no report.
ELECTION:
a. Mingan Tribo was elected to the Board of Directors.
b. Executive Board Members were elected to remain in their present positions. Beverly Black resigned as Second Vice President and was replaced by Kristy Dougherty. All positions to be elected, moved by Karen and seconded by Joy.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Board of Directors will meet Wednesday, July 22 at 6:30 pm to rewrite the Job Description for the Gallery Manager.
COMMENTS: Discussion was held on meeting structure and leadership.

MEETING CALLED TO ORDER at 6:40 pm by President Dudley Owens
MEMBERS PRESENT: Beverly Black, Marty Guzman, Kerry Rowland-Aurich, Randy Tribo, Kristi Dougherty, Joy Key, Karen Hansen, Marianne Post, Richard Gideon, Ron Gallus, Steve Duncan, Mai Ling Albert, Maricella Townsend.
BUSINESS: President Owens read the letter of resignation from Manager Judie Muncie. Discussion followed. President Owens informed the Board that Estelle will keep the Gallery open. President Owens to send e mails to the Membership informing them of the resignation of Manager Judie Muncie and the plans to keep the Gallery open.
MEMBERSHIP MEETING: Members arrived at the meeting for their regularly scheduled meeting. The membership present were informed of the Managers resignation and discussion was held. Membership present recommended that the Board of Directors meeting and the Membership meeting be held on the same day. Board of Directors Meeting early at 6:00 pm and the Membership Meeting at 6:30 pm on the third Wednesday of the month. Kristi Dougherty moved and Karen Hansen 2nd. Passed.
JULY 15 WILL BE THE NEXT MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AT 6:00 PM AND THE MEMBERSHIP MEETING AT 6:30 PM.
